Reports can be run from several areas within case management or time & billing, depending on how you’ve customized your practice management solution.  The first place is from the custom desktop, any report that’s been placed on your desktop, can be run by simply clicking on the icon.

Most reports are created with Crystal Report writer and many include a parameter dialogue box (options selector) allowing a user to control the information included in the report.   When a range of dates is involved, a user must check off the today check box, for a specified date to take effect; Checking off the all button, on a parameter that has an ellipsis, will allow you to select the drop down.

Clicking on an ellipsis, gives us a list of report options that are available in the database.  Highlight the one you want. Click OK.  The report will generate to the screen.  If the report doesn’t display properly, you can adjust the display size by clicking on the percentage drop down.  To print the report, select the printer icon.

The custom desktop also contains the reports menu.  Selecting the reports menu option will open the full reports menu.  The reports menu consists of different report categories.   Clicking on its respective plus sign will expand each category.

A list of all reports under each category will be displayed.  The listing of reports is shown based on user permissions from the security system.  A user will only see the reports that the admin allow to access.  When you highlight a report, it will typically give a description of the options available for running the report, as well as the actual file name of the report.

When the report is selected, you’ll once again get the parameters dialogue.  It’s important to note that the dialogue boxes, with lookups from the Perfect Practice database, utilize special parameters specific to Perfect Practice.  If you’ve written your own crystal reports, you’ll see a different looking dialogue, with no access to lookups from the database.  Click OK and the selected report will run.

The report menu can also be selected from the classic menu.   Reports can also be added to the questionnaire tab.  While viewing a case within case management there will be “Case Summary” button on the left menu.   This is a built in feature of case management.  Once it’s configured for a specific case type, pressing the summary button will run a report specific to the case you have displayed.  Of course, it can be customized to firms’ specifications.  To print the report, click on the print icon.

All reports can be exported to almost any format required including ODBC, XLS, CSV, HTML and PDF.
